Terrorists to be eliminated from Karachi: COAS

KARACHI: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif Sunday reiterated resolve to eliminate terrorists and criminals from Karachi and directed all the commanders to work together following the recent incidents in Karachi including kidnapping of SHC Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah’s son and killing of qawwal Amjad Sabri.
The Army Chief was addressing Commanders during his visit to Rangers Headquarters here, where he was briefed by Director General of Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Major General Bilal Akbar on the security situation prevailing in the city.
Paying tributes to Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) for their sacrifices and achievements, the COAS directed the relevant authorities to leave no stone unturned for the arrest of terrorists.
The COAS said that the security situation of Karachi has significantly improved due to the achievements attained by the Rangers.
The army chief said that the Sindh Rangers would be provided with intelligence and battle equipments if needed.
Gen Raheel was briefed in detail by Director General Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar on the paramilitary force’s ongoing operation, the law and order situation and the way forward for Karachi during the meeting.
Referring to recent incidents, the army chief directed all commanders, including those of intelligence agencies, to continue working hand-in-glove, leaving no stone unturned finding the perpetrators.
The COAS reiterated that the Karachi operation focuses on the entire network of terrorists, their abettors and financiers, and will continue until peace is restored to the city.
Every form of assistance, including intelligence and material combat support, will be provided to the Rangers to accomplish their mission, he said.
As law enforcement agencies count successes in the ongoing operation against terrorists, banned outfits and militant wings of political and religious organisations, Karachiites have faced a sudden rise in street crimes, which has cost at least four lives during the first 10 days of Ramazan and raised fears for the days ahead.
The army chief hailed the sacrifices of the Rangers personnel for the Karachi operation and said that the people of Karachi viewed them with respect due to their efforts.
He said that Pakistan army vowed to eliminate all terrorist networks without any discrimination including their facilitators and financial supporters.
The Army Chief added that Karachi Operation will continue till life gets back to normal on a daily basis, peace rehabilitation and operation reaching its logical end.
There had been an increased prestige by residents of Karachi for Rangers due to professionalism, commitment and courage regarding Karachi Operation, COAS added. On this occasion, General Raheel Sharif had an exchange of words with Rangers’ personnel and praised their efforts to bring peace in the city.
As a part of this briefing, participants of the meeting were briefed on Sindh High Court Chief Justice’s son Awais Ali Shah’s abduction and renowned qawwal Amjad Sabri’s murder.
