Karachi’s coastal areas feared to drown in 40 year’s time

ISLAMABAD: A briefing based on the National Institution of Oceanography’s report took place during the meeting of the Standing committee for environment. The committee was informed that the sea level was rising 1.2 mm annually which could result in the drowning of Karachi’s coastal areas within 40 to 45 years, reported Dunya News.

The report suggests that Karachi’s delta area is feared to be affected the most as a result of the rising sea levels. Various areas of Balochistan and Sindh are also under quite some danger as a result of increasing number of storms in the Arabian Sea.

Members of the committee expressed their concerns over the rising sea levels and suggested to arrange a conference based on foreign experts in order to provide information regarding the prevention of the rising sea levels.
