ISLAMABAD: Martine Dorance, Ambassador of France to Pakistan visited Higher Education Commission Secretariat and met Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman HEC. She was accompanied by Andre de Bussy, Counsellor for Cooperation and Cultural Affairs.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed briefed the Ambassador about achievements made by HEC since its inception, as well as exiting projects and future plans of the Commission for making quality higher education accessible in all regions of the country.
He gave an overview of HEC’s initiatives and progress in human resource development, research and development, implementation of quality assurance criteria, steps to improve universities governance, strengthening physical and technological infrastructure, capacity building of faculty and management staff of universities, etc.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed shared HEC’s role as funding agency and a regulator, and spoke at length about research and dire need for applied research as well as establishment of Technology Fund for applied research. He also mentioned Change Maker project and establishment of centres for excellence in Food Security, Water and Energy. The Chairman sought French help in setting up more incubation centres for research. Both sides agreed to enhance collaboration, particularly short term exchange programme for faculty and students.
The Ambassador appreciated the performance of HEC for transformation of universities and facilitating faculty, students, research scholars as well as management staff of universities to meet international standards of higher education. She expressed her interest in enhancing academic links between the two countries and spoke of a more structured approach to meet these goals. She informed the Chairman that Pakistan day will be celebrated in France for which Chairman agreed to participate by engaging representation by vice chancellors and students. PR
