PTI wants free, fair intra-party elections: Imran

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Friday said the PTI wanted free and fair intra-party elections.

Learning from the past mistakes, it was decided to conduct direct election for every party office, he said while addressing a press conference here.

Imran Khan said as party chairman, he accepted the decision of Justice Wajihuudin’s tribunal which had the last party elections null and void.

Imran said Tasneem Norrani was appointed chief election commissioner for fresh intra-party polls, who had appointed members of the election commission himself.

“We believe that the job of election commissioner is to hold elections in a free and fair manner,” he added.

Imran Khan said intra-party systems of America and Britain were considered prior to holding party elections.

He said taking decisions about the power centers in the party was not the job of election commissioner. He even accepted the election commissioner’s recommendation of another council election, which was not his jurisdiction.

Imran said he was disappointed over the resignation of Tasneem Noorani as he was doing a good job.

He said Noman Wazir was number two in the election commission, who would now head the commission to conduct election with Anis Bajwa from Punjab.

Imran said election at local government and wings level would be held in the second phase. APP
