Pak-Belarus academic cooperation to go on

Belarus Delegation Visits HEC

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of the Republican Institute for Vocational Education (RIVE), Belarus visited Higher Education Commission Secretariat and called on Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman HEC, Dr. Arshad Ali, Executive Director HEC and other members of the senior management.

The delegation, headed by Prof. Arkady Shklyar, Rector RIVE, also included Ms. Olga Dekhtiarenko, Head of Department for International Research in VET, and Mr. Valery Golubovsky, Vice Rector RIVE. The two sides agreed that Pakistan and Belarus have many similar priorities for higher education and both the countries need to energize their potential in addressing future educational, scientific and technological challenges. It was agreed to strengthen cooperation in academic, vocational, engineering and science areas.

The Chairman HEC said that Pakistan and Belarus have an agreement at the Government level for academic collaboration. He informed the delegation that establishment of three new vocational and skill development universities, one each in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, are in the pipeline.

Prof. Arkady Shklyar informed the Chairman HEC that RIVE develops strategy for vocational training, adding that it is focusing on different education systems. “We have initiated mutual cooperation initiatives with various international organizations.” The Rector also explained the ongoing projects of RIVE on skill development, vocational training, energy, besides achievements of Centre of Excellence in Renewable Energy in Belarus.

The Chairman HEC expressed his desire to have a Centre of Excellence on the same pattern with guidance from the Belarusian Institute. He said the two sides may also exchange groups of Vice Chancellors and students for educational tours. It is pertinent to mention here that a delegation from Belarusian universities along with First Deputy Minister will visit Pakistan on 11th April to explore avenues for cooperation. Staff Report
