Waqar slams Moin in report to PCB

LAHORE: Embattled head coach of the national cricket team Waqar Younis has lambasted chief selector Moin Khan in his report submitted to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

According to details of the report received by Geo News on Wednesday, Waqar has complained to the PCB about Moin Khan, accusing him of destroying the team environment.

Waqar has complained that Moin used to take some of his favourite boys out and gave them gifts. He said that Moin also favoured a few players over others, including Umar Akmal who he say was let off the hook several times for missing practice sessions.

All of this was being done to belittle and put me down, Waqar has complained to the PCB in his report.

It is worth noting that the environment had become tense in 2014 when Moin Khan had accompanied the Pakistan team as manager and chief selector on their tour of Sri Lanka.

The details of Waqar’s report were leaked a day after Waqar apologized to the nation for the Pakistan team’s disappointing performance in the World Twenty20 tournament in India.

“Literally, I clasp my hands and beg for forgiveness. The way we performed…it should not have been like this,” Waqar had said, speaking to media in Lahore on Tuesday.

Waqar said that sacking players or officials will not improve things for Pakistan cricket. “Cosmetic surgery will not solve things. We will have to open our eyes, solve issues, remove politics (from the system),” he said.

He said that he had performed his duties as Pakistan coach honestly, and that if he is held responsible he would step down as coach.

“If they accuse me, send me home, no issues. I’ll go home. If the problem will be resolved by sacking me, then Bismillah! Don’t do it tomorrow, do it today!” he said, but added that was unfair to blame any single person for the team’s poor performance. GEO
