PCB to appoint foreigner as Pakistan coach for England series

ISLAMABAD: Dismissing the speculation about Aaqib Javed becoming the Pakistan cricket coach, a PCB official said Wednesday that PCB Chairman Shaharyar M Khan had preferred to hire a foreign coach, starting with England tour in July.

Aaqib, who is currently coaching the United Arab Emirates (UAE) team, had approached the board officials during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Dubai to offer his services as Pakistan cricket coach.

The current coach Waqar Younis is facing criticism in the aftermath of disastrous campaign in the World Twenty 20 in India.

The official, on condition of anonymity, told APP that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman was interested in hiring a foreign coach for the team.

“The new coach will be appointed prior to the series against England as current coach Waqar Younis’s contract will expire in June,” he said.

He said as far as Aqib was concerned he was likely be given some role in the National Cricket Academy as his contract with the UAE team was also about to expire. APP
