Cricketers return amid tight security

KARACHI: Five cricketers of Karachi including Vice-captain Sarfraz Ahmed, Muhammad Sami, Khalid Latif, Sharjeel Khan and Anwar Ali returned here early on Sunday morning in the city amid tight security after disastrous results in ICC World Twenty20 in India.

Police personnel escorted the players from the Jinnah International Airport to their waiting vehicles as some close relatives received them.

However, neither any slogan was raised against the players or any mishap was seen at the airport as they rushed to their respective homes.

No players talked to the waiting electronic and print media. All-rounder Anwar Ali returned without playing any match of the tournament. Pakistan’s top-scorer in World T20 Sharjeel Khan left for his hometown Hyderabad.

Shahid Afridi’s Pakistan team was knocked out from the event after three back to back defeats to New Zealand and Australia in Mohali.

Captain Shahid Afridi has stayed back in United Arab Emirates to avoid the wrath of people. Pakistan could win their only league game against Bangladesh and suffered big defeat in three matches. It was same results two years ago in Bangladesh when Muhammad Hafeez’s team crashed out from the league rounds in same event.

Earlier Pakistan team also suffered the same fate in Twenty20 Asia Cup where they failed to qualify for the finals after defeats against India and Bangladesh. APP
