LAHORE: At least 70 persons, most of them women and children, were killed and over 300 others injured in a powerful explosion in the parking area near Gate No. 1 of Gulshan Iqbal Park, Allama Iqbal Town on Sunday evening, Lahore DCO Capt (R) Muhammad Usman said. Responding to reporters’ queries, the District Coordination Officer (DCO) said there was no specific threat of the blast, however, general threats existed every time. He added that administration always remained alert to cope with any unwanted incident, but the number of casualties and injured increased due to heavy rush of visitors on weekly holiday.
The national flag will fly half mast on all public/official buildings in the provinvial capital for three days in mourning of the victims of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park blast.
District Coordination Officer (DCO) Lahore Capt (R) Muhammad Usman, in a notification here Sunday, also announced that all city markets and bazaars would remain closed on Monday to show respects to the victims and solidarity with the bereaved families. Agencies
